Singles 2: The Complete Installation Guide

No doubt you’ve heard of Singles 2: Triple Trouble, or at the least it’s predecessor Singles: Flirt up your Life.

“Ooh, it’s like The Sims except really naughty! It’s got sex and boobies and everything!”
~ Random bystander who just so happens to be on a list.

So let us assume you’ve bought Singles 2 (perhaps from a second hand shop like CEX, looking very sheepish as you show it to the man behind the counter), deciding your life could do with a bit of Sims-esque booty. So you get home, you install it, you load up the game, and you see for yourself…

“What!? This game isn’t naughty at all! Sure there’s a couple of innuendos in there, but there’s no sex and nudity whatsoever, it’s all censored!”
~ You after losing your boner.

Oh ho! How wrong you are friend. For you see, you haven’t finished installing it yet…

History

Mmmm, strawberries and implied lesbianism, all part of a balanced diet.

Singles 2 is the sequel to the somewhat notorious Singles: Flirt up your Life, a game that prided itself on being an adult version of The Sims. It’s the perfect concept really; most people who buy The Sims get nude mods and sex mods anyway, so why not capitalise on that? Now, Singles wasn’t a bad game by any means, but it certainly wasn’t The Sims. It had more in common with Maxis’ own spinoff series, The Sims Stories; you had a limited group of pre-made characters, a basic storyline with written dialogue to play through, and limited functionality in terms of decorating. It also wasn’t a pornographic game, having really only a bit of adult language and full-frontal nudity. The game’s main focus was on being a dating sim with a bit of life simulation thrown in there. Also, give credit where credit is due; it allowed for same-sex relationships. This was long before Dragon Age or Mass Effect, two games that popularised the idea of gay characters within computer games.

Now, Singles wasn’t a massive hit by any means, but it was popular enough to warrant a sequel. The sequel is a major improvement, featuring more characters, more customisation, and a much more interesting storyline (oh, and everyone’s bisexual, so you’re not restricted to “token flamboyant gay” and “token butch lesbian”). It also contains a lot more sex and nudity. So what happened to it?

Well you see, both games were made in Germany, a country which on the whole considers scenes with sex or nudity to be much less offensive than scenes which contain over-the-top violence (which, you know, actually makes sense, but try telling God of War that). When it comes to sex and nudity, you can get away with a lot more in Germany, hence why the German version of the game contains everything. Everywhere else? Censored.

But not all is lost, for you see, all of the content is still there. It’s just hidden behind a barrage of mosaic blurs and bedsheets. In order to get the game that the creators intended for us to play, we have to finish installing it.

The Installation Guide

Step 1: Run the installer.

I don’t think I really need to tell you this, but just in case you haven’t done this yet, yeah, you need to do your typical install. You can install it wherever you want, it’ll still work.

Step 2: Patch it.

The game you just installed is version 1.0. The latest version available is 1.4, and believe me, it makes a difference. However, there are two things to keep in mind, the first being that you have to install every update in the appropriate order (you can’t just skip to the most recent one). These versions are:

Version 1.1: Adds the all important “Extensions” folder, essentially adding modding support.

Version 1.2: General bug fixes.

Version 1.4: Removes the broken copy protection, allowing you to play the game without the disk.

That’s right people, none of those “no CD” cracks needed. Oh, and there is a 1.3 update, but it doesn’t work, so don’t bother trying to download it.

Now, the second thing to keep in mind? You can’t get these off the official website. You can try, but you’ll fail. The official website has been left alone for a good few years now, and all of the official links to the patches don’t work any more. Thankfully, it’s easy to find these patches with Google, but to make it easier for you:

Singles 2 1.1 Patch: http://www.gamershell.com/download_9653.shtml
Singles 2 1.2 Patch: http://www.gamershell.com/download_10027.shtml
Singles 2 1.4 Patch: http://www.gamershell.com/download_18607.shtml

Just install those three patches, and then try loading the game. It should load with no problems, and should display the number 1.4 in the bottom right hand corner on the main menu.

But I still get the copy-protection message!

Don’t worry, so did I, quite a few times. To fix this, start the 1.4 patch again. When it asks you if you want to remove it, say yes. After that, delete your Singles2.exe file in the main Singles 2 directory (back it up first!). Then run the 1.2 patch again. When it warns you that you already have the 1.2 patch installed, and asks if you want to install it again, say yes. It should create a new Singles2.exe file. Now install the 1.4 patch again. Hopefully, the game should load now with no problems.

Step 3: Remove the mosaic blur.

This is actually really easy, so easy it’s criminal. In your Singles 2 directory, there is a folder called “loca”. Go into there, and then go into the “English” folder. You’ll see a file in there called “scmt4.dll”. Copy and paste this into the main Singles 2 directory (where your Singles2.exe is kept). Load up the game and command someone to get undressed, and there should be no mosaic blur whatsoever. Be sure to check with both a male and a female character, some people have reported seeing uncensored women and censored men in the same game.

Step 4: Unlock teh sex.

This final step will unlock all of the sexual options (such as masturbation and oral), remove any tangible censorship (swimming shorts in the shower, bedsheets, etc), while also giving you access to other hidden functions (stripteases, the ability to make someone fart on command…not kidding with that last one). For this, we will need the Singles 2 Booster, available from here: http://singles2.steffi1964.de/

Don’t let the fact that it’s a German website put you off, it’s very easy to navigate (it also helps that a lot of German words are similar enough to their English counterparts to be recognisable). On the left hand side, you’ll see a menu. Click “Booster”, and then “Download”. Download the latest version (at the time of writing, this is version 2.6) by clicking on the logo above “Singles 2 Booster 2.6″. It’s a .7z file, so you’ll need a program like, surprisingly enough, 7z to extract it (honestly, 7z is the best tool out there for this kind of thing…it handles zips, rars, any type of archive, all for free). Once you extract it, you should find yourself with a folder called “Singles2 – Booster” with a whole bunch of other folders in it. Copy the “Singles2 – Booster” folder into your Singles 2 “Extensions” folder (Program Files/Singles2/Extensions).

Now, once you’ve done that, go into the “Singles2 – Booster” folder, and find the folder called “_Replace this file”. Inside that folder you will find a folder called “GameLogic”, and in that a file called “characterDescription.acd”. Copy that file, go back to the main Singles 2 directory (where Singles2.exe is located), go into the real “GameLogic” folder, and replace the real “characterDescription.acd” with the one you just copied from the booster (back it up first!).

Now, if you did all that correctly, it shouldn’t cause your computer to grow arms and start choking you, but I can’t make any promises. Instead, the game should load up perfectly fine. Your first sign that it’s worked will be the logo on the main menu; if the booster installed correctly, the logo will now feature the word “Booster” and a naked girl laying casually with her landing strip in clear view. Get into your game, go into Buy Mode (it’s the little house icon in the bottom left hand corner), click on “Domestics and Appliances” (represented by a washing machine and a clock), and then click on “Decoration and Candles” (represented by a goldfish bowl). There, you should now see a Buddha with the word “Booster” over it at the end of the list. You must sort the list by “Decoration and Candles” to see it, it will not appear under “all items”.

So what does the booster do? Well, it does a lot of things, all of which can be turned on or off from the little booster Buddha. This includes:

  • Removing the bedsheets, allowing you to clearly see what’s going on underneath them (same with the shower steam).
  • Locking and unlocking extra outfits, namely the nude outfits (flacid penis, erect penis, normal vagina, shaven vagina, and naked barbie)
  • Locking and unlocking various sexual interactions, such as anal sex on the floor, and masturbating on the coffee table (so that’s what they’re for!).
  • Choosing whether characters wrap up in a towel after showering or remain naked instead.
  • The ability for the sofa to be treat like a bed (allowing people to sleep and masturbate on it).
  • The ability to choose what other non-playable characters are wearing (by clicking on them and either changing their outfits instantly or getting them to strip down/dress up)
  • The ability to play as another character by clicking on them (allowing you to play as non-playable characters that aren’t part of your household).
  • Various naked interactions, such as sleeping naked, using a hottub naked, and performing stripteases.
  • The ability to make someone fart on command (“…upps”).

Yeah, it’s quite interesting. Every single important options (unlocking sexual interactions and removing tangible censorship) are all already unlocked for you, so you really only need the Buddha if you want to tone down on some of the features, or just to make sure you aren’t missing anything.

Update Friday, July 13, 2012: If you’ve followed the instructions correctly and the booster still doesn’t work, reader Cho suggests installing version 2.4 of the booster first. If v2.4 works, try installing v2.5 over it, and then finally v2.6. Your mileage may vary.

Now, if all you want is to play Singles 2 as the creators originally intended it, this is all you need to do. However, if you want to extend your fun a bit, there is one last step you can do…

Step 5: INSTALL MORE EXTENSIONS!

Although not as popular as The Sims, Singles 2 has a surprising amount of custom content available. Here are two sites you’ll need to get yourself acquainted with if you want more furniture and costumes:

Singles 2 Extensions: http://singles2.steffi1964.de/
Additions – Triple Trouble: http://singles.over-blog.com/categorie-532771.html

One particular mod I recommend, which can be found on the fifth page of the second link, is the Bonsai Of Life (listed as “Bonzaï”). To install it, all you need to do is place the “AvVBonsaiOfLife.sx2″ file in the Singles 2 “Extensions” folder. It’ll add a new item in the same place you’ll find the Booster Buddah, and gives you access to various cheat functions (extra cash, extra skill points, increase friendship, unlock debug menus), which is perfect if all you want to do is get to the good stuff.

There’s even a tool available at the first link that allows you to replace the locations within the game with completely different custom made locations (some of them really wacky, such as Wonderland and a sci-fi setting), but I have yet to get this to work without crashing my game so i’ll have to get back to you on that one.

Step 6: Enjoy!

Hopefully your copy of Singles 2: Triple Trouble should now be fully patched with all the naughtiness unlocked for your enjoyment. I hope this guide has proven to be useful, and I apologise for the lack of updates on this site (life has been pretty hectic). If this guide helped you, or if you have any additional questions/problems, then please don’t hesitate to leave a comment.

hi first of all, thanks so much for this guide. i managed to resolve the copy protection message by following your instructions. i have trouble installing the booster. you mentioned there should be a display of the number 1.4 in the bottom right hand corner on the main menu. I did see it so that will mean my game is v1.4 right? but when i start a new game, i couldn’t see the booster. I did everything as what was written in your guide. I even uninstall and re-install multiple times, repeating the steps before i ask for your help. the booster folder downloaded from the link you gave me provided an image of how it will look like so i know how it looks like. so…i really do not know what went wrong or why i can’t see the booster in my game. a little help? thanks.

Hmm, did you install all of the patches? Annoyingly, unlike a lot of patches for other games, they do not include all updates up to that point. You have to install 1.1 first (to get mod support, which includes the extensions folder), then 1.2, then 1.4.

Failing that, it must be an issue with the installation of the mod itself. Keep in mind there are some files within the mod that must be manually moved to overwrite the official ones, specifically the “Game Logic” folder. Keep in mind, it must replace the “Game Logic” folder in the main game directory, NOT the Booster’s own directory (I made this mistake myself at first). I’m very bad at explaining things, so here’s a couple of links that I personally found useful when installing the booster myself.

Here’s a quick tutorial by steffi1964 (the creator of the mod) over at the Singles 2 fan-forum: http://forum.deepsilver.com/forum/showthread.php/19301-Tutorial-Singles-2-How-to-install-Singles-2-Booster
About the above link, it’s for an older version of the booster. The newer version (2.6) includes both the German “_Diese Datei ersetzen” folder, and an English “_Replace this file” folder. Use the English version instead.

And here’s a slightly more visual tutorial also by steffi1964, from the booster webpage: http://singles2.steffi1964.de/booster_install.html#install_eng
This one shows exactly how the file structure should look.

Please let me know if this works for you. :)

hi there! thanks for your prompt reply. i wasn’t expecting it to be so soon lols. anyway thanks for helping me i did look up those pages you provided before and sorry to say that it did not help. :/
after posting a comment here i went to search for solutions in forums and someone with the same problem as me said that he installed the old version of the booster and it worked for him. so i tried installing v2.4 and it really worked!!
then i replace the v2.4 with v2.5 and it worked again! so i replaced v2.5 with v2.6 and yes it worked!
so basically the solution is to replace the booster versions accordingly like the patches.
i think it is because mine is the no cd crack version that is why all these problems kept coming.
so anyway thanks for writing this guide and all they are really helpful and i am glad i found this. thanks again!

        • July 13, 2012 at 1:09 pm

I am so glad you got it to work. :D
Yeah, the fact that it’s a no cd cracked version might have interfered with something. Still, you got it to work, and that’s all that matters. :3

Hey dude booster link is dead

    • September 10, 2012 at 7:25 pm

I just tried the link myself, and it still works. The Booster is available on Steffi1964′s website, which is still up and working fine.

If ya don’t believe me, go to Google, and find a website called “Is this down, or is it just me”, or something to that effect. That website should let you know with no doubt whether it’s a problem with the website, or if it’s a problem on your end. I have used that site PLENTY of times, it’s a really bloody useful one to remember. :)

Now, I have no idea why it isn’t working on your end. If you’re trying to access it from a public computer/connection, it might be blocked due to adult content. Same goes for parental blocks (I have no idea how old you are). It might even be blocked in your country (no idea which country you’re in). Or it could just be a simple case of your firewall blocking it for some reason or another (sometimes firewalls and virus scanners can be a bit overzealous).

If you still can’t access the website, get back to me, and i’ll see if I can find the booster on any other website.

I can only install the patch 1_4 and just created an “Extensions” folder on Singles 2 folder…
then I copied the Singles2Booster folder on the Extensions then I copied the “characterDescription.acd” from the Booster folder to the original GameLogic folder.. I also tried to add to Bonsai_of_life add on..a .SX2 file… I could only see the bonsai-of-life but NOT the booster buddha… but upon opening the game, the version is 1.4 and a girl lying naked with a Booster logo with it is showing..

The thing is, I can’t install patch 1_1 and 1_2…I’m getting an error that a version of Singles2 is NOT installed…

    • December 19, 2012 at 5:45 pm

All I can recommend is completely un-installing Singles2 and trying it again from the start. You NEED to install all of the patches or else it won’t work.

Are you using the legal version, or a pirated version? There’s a good chance that if you’re using a pirated version or a No CD crack that it might be interfering with the patches. If this is the case, try installing the patches BEFORE applying any No CD cracks to it (or, you know, buy a legal copy, if you can find one). In fact, you shouldn’t even need to apply the No CD crack at all, considering Patch 1.4 removes the need to have a disc anyway.

i did try your trick 3-4 times and still getting error generic after installing 1.4 patch. what do i do?

    • April 13, 2013 at 10:19 pm

I’m sorry, but I honestly don’t know. Like I said to Sam_Nicole, if you’re using a pirated version of this game that’s patched with a No CD crack, it might be interfering with your installs. When do you actually see this “generic” error? Is it when you try to install the 1.4 patch, or when you run the game? Did you completely uninstall both the patches and the game before attempting the next 3 or 4 times?

I installed booster, but penis is still not erecting during sex, although that option is activated on the budha…
    How to fix?

    • May 5, 2013 at 1:02 am

I’m sorry, but I honestly don’t know. I’ve never had issues with getting erections. (haha) You might be better off e-mailing the creator of the booster, as they’ve probably come across this problem before. The only other thing I can recommend is a complete re-install of Singles 2, just in case something went wrong.

Hey, why when I have extract the booster, I didn’t find “characterDescription.acd” file in GameLogic?
so, do you have solution for my problem?

    • September 8, 2013 at 4:58 pm

Where did you download the booster from? Also, you have to go into the folder called “_Replace this file”, and THEN “GameLogic”.

Yeah, there’s two GameLogic folders, so make sure you’re looking at the correct one.

I have installed all the extras and thge 2.6 Booster and all works well. The only glitch I have found is that the Dresser will not show clothes change options and One needs this option to progress in the story mode where the Person being played needs to purchase new clothes and put them on. One can purchase the clothes but how does one change into them as the dresser does not work for me…

    • October 5, 2013 at 9:26 pm

I honestly don’t know what the problem is, as I haven’t experienced this myself. The wardrobes/dressers work perfectly fine for me, and i’ve been able to purchase and use both default outfits and modded outfits.

All I can suggest is maybe try a fresh re-install, and see if you can change clothes BEFORE you add the patches/booster. At least then we’ll know if it’s a problem with the patches/mods or the game itself.

hey ,please help.. when i instal patch 1.1 or patch 1.2 it says that singles 2 is not installed but patch 1.4 can be installed ..but afterwards errors come.. can u please tell me how can i install patch 1.1 and 1.2..

    • November 27, 2013 at 11:27 pm

Are you using a pirated version of the game? Does it have a no-cd crack? If so, those things are probably screwing up the process. Either buy a legal version, or at least find a pirated version that DOESN’T have a no-cd crack applied to it, and try the whole process again from scratch.

  12. December 15, 2013 at 8:07 pm

Hey, can you help me? I’m having trouble on removing the mosaic blur. I can’t find that “loca” directory that you’ve mentioned.

Hello, I installed all the patches but its still says that the version is 1.0..

Hello. Are you using a pirated copy? Most pirated copies contain no-cd cracks that can interfere with the patches.

        July 9, 2014 at 8:36 am

I noticed the same issues whenever I try to patch. First I am not using a pirated version, I am using the gamefly downloaded purchase. I cannot use the 1.1 or 1.2 patches and 1.4 is the only one that loads. Not sure how to make this all work without the “extensions folder”. Any help would be useful.

        • July 11, 2014 at 8:14 pm

I’m sorry, but i’m not sure what the problem is. I’ve never used gamefly before so I have no idea if there’s any exclusive DRM that might be interfering with it.
